Welcome to Liberty Hill Farm and thank you
for visiting our website.
We
are a small family run farm located in the beautiful rolling hills of south central Tennessee. My wonderful, loving husband,
Dan, although not as horse crazy as our daughters (Taylor and Jenna) and I are, has been extremely supportive in our equine
pursuits. We are very blessed that these beautiful, magical horses have found their way into our lives and praise God
for the opportunities He's given us. I have always loved horses and have had many different breeds since I was a child,
everything from quarter horses, thoroughbreds, arabians, saddlebreds to just plain old mixed breed Heinz 57's! Each
breed stands apart and has their own unique characteristics.
My "Gypsy adventure" began in Georgia in 2002 when, Leslie, a good friend
of mine introduced me to the beautiful Friesian horse. We visited the farm of a very kind woman, Button Lee, where
we met her fabulous Friesian stallion, Jilte. I was in awe, I had never seen such a powerful, magnificant stallion
with such a gentle disposition, and that FEATHER on his feet! But I have always loved a horse of a different color
and was really looking for something a bit smaller. Fast forward to several months later, Leslie was excitedly telling
me about "Gypsy Horses", how the breed was developed in the UK by the gypsy folk who bred them to pull their caravans
(bowtop wagons) and how they must be even tempered, intelligent and gentle since the horses lived closely with the families
back then. They could not risk having a spooky horse that would hurt their children. We discovered that the
breed was derived from careful selection of Friesian, Shire, Clydesdale and Dales Pony breeding. She showed me some
pictures online and I had to see one in person. My family took a trip to the farm of Dennis Thompson in 2003 and absolutely
fell in LOVE with his horses (The Gypsy King and Shampoo Girl were my favorites). I knew, that before I died, I HAD
to have one!
It
took us a couple more years, but in February, 2006, we finally found "The ONE", "Aeden" (aka Lion
Heart) a red and white colt by Lion King who started it all for us. And with the help of Jenny in Maine and Cheryl
Lang of Aisling farm, we've added 2 mares (Lilly and Molly) and a gelding (Joe) to our Gypsy herd and the rest is history
(in the making). . . . .
